Case Study 1

R. Eswar Rao, Locomotor disable, aged about 30, resident of K. Routput village coming under Madhusudanpur gram panchayat of Gosani Block. He is polio effected. He was sitting idel without any work or any income source. He was totally depending upon his family. As the age is growing up, he was becoming burden on his family. He was trying to do some business but due to financial problem, he was unable to proceed ahead.

The project has identified the PWDs and formed a group of disabled in the name of Lokeswari Disable SHG to provide support for their rehabilitation. R. Eswar Rao also included in the group. In every monthly meeting all members are participating and sharing their problems. The network members have selected Eswar Rao to get support from the Project to do some business so that he can support his family also. The network members have encouraged him to open a book store in his village near the High school. But with the Rs. 5000/- it is not possible to open a book store.

The network members have create an alternative that he may sell the notebooks, books, pen, pencils, rubber and other eatable items in the village school and nearby.Now he is maintaining a managable life and supporting his family also. He is now happy and regularly doing business without gap. In every Sunday, during school holiday, he is opening the shop near his house.

Case Study 2

Santunu Kumar Bhukta, aged about 39 years, locomotor disabled, of R. Sitapur village coming under Uppalada Gram Panchayat in Gosani block of Gajapati District. He is living with his wife and one son aged about 10 years. He was striving hard to provide 2 times food for his family. Previously he was maintaining a shop but due to less input, he was getting profit of Rs. 20/- to Rs. 30/- per day. With this less amount, he could maintain his family. But day by day, he could not make input for his shop and accordingly profit was also decreased. Some times he used to sit idel in his shop without any transaction. He tried to get loan from his friends and villagers but could not get any support from anywhere. He was very much discouraging and decided to close his shop.

The proejct identified him and included in Jagannath Disable Group and is operating in R. Sitapur village. He is regularly attending the monthly meeting and in one such meeting he shared his difficulties. It was placed in the network meeting.

The network members have decided to provide loan Rs. 5000/- to Santunu to reopen his shop with more inputs. Accordingly, he was encouraged to continue his business. Immedialy getting support of Rs. 5000/- from the project, he purchased various daily selling items. The project staff members are also meeting and encouraging him regularly.

Now he is selling around Rs. 400/- to Rs. 500/- per day and getting Rs. 80/- to Rs. 90/- netprofit per day. He is saving Rs. 10/- per day and revolving for more inputs for his shop. He says, that “The project saved me and my family. Now I will pay more emphasis on my son's education as well as improve my shop''.

Case Study 3:

Now I am releived from idle bondage.......

Amod Korada, aged about 17 years, S/o. Hirod Korada of Jagannathpur Village coming under Kujasing Gram Panchayat of Gumma Block. He is affected with Polio (Two of his legs). His parents are pro-poor labourers working hard daily to efford their livelihood. Amod Korada became a burden to the family sitting idle without any base.

After joining the group of PWDs namely Jeobajeri Self Help Group, he got inspiration and encourgement from other members as well as project staff, participating in the monthly meetings, network meeting and awareness camps. As an impact, he showed his willingness to run a grocery shop at his house to earn refraining from the vagaris of idleness. Accordingly he was selected in network meeting to get a loan amount of Rs. 5000/- under Micro Credit.

He started a Grocery shop at his house after getting loan from the Project. Firstly he was facing some harships to maintain the shop and gradually is well in progress. His is selling Rs. 200/- per day with a net profit of Rs. 35/- to 40/-. After starting repayment the loan amount with interest to the network, again he was provided Rs. 5000/- during March'05, to develop the grocery shop to earn more profit. Now he is happy as he could provide support to his family and says that “I am releived from idle bondage“.
