Process initiated by CCD.
Running of Non-formal education: In the beginning, CCD started night schools for the tribal children. The tribal teachers were running the centres. Both girls and boys were reading in the night schools. These centres helped a lot to sensitize the parents on the importance of education for children. The enrollment and retention rate in the formal school started increasing. The community took interest in the affairs of the govt. school. CCD is not running night schools now. Community has mobilized primary school or centres under the EGS.
Community Capacity Building: The Universalization of Primary education cannot be achieved without the involvement of the community. Schools and centres are there are in all the revenue villages. Irregularity in the functioning of the schools in the hilly areas is a major issue. CCD has been sensitizing the community on its role and responsibility to make the school functional. School education committee, Village development committee, self-help groups are being provided information on the provisions under SSA and education as a fundamental rights. Education is a regular agenda in the meetings of VDC, SHGs and federations.
Bridge Courses: Drop out of students before completing primary education is very common in the tribal areas. The dropout and never enrolled were provided bridge courses in 33 centres in the inaccessibility pockets of Tarangada and Partada GP. The children were enrolled in the school according to their standard after reading in the bridge centres.
Child Rights Groups: - Children clubs are promoted in the villages involving both boys and girls. The group sits once a week to discuss their problems. They also participate in the village meeting and share their problem. They have distributed responsibility among themselves. Capacity building programme are being conducted for the children
Girl Child Education: - Sensitization programmes are being conducted for the parents on the importance of girl child education. During the gender analysis, status of girl child education was reviewed in all the villages. It is an important agenda in the SHG meeting. CCD is making linkages with the residential girls schools for the enrollment of girls in high schools.
Inclusive education: CCD is advocating for the inclusive education i.e. inclusion of Children with disability in the general schools. Inclusive education is more effective. It gives confidence to Children with disability to live in the society with dignity. Sensitizing parents and preparing the children are two major activities of CCD. Braille education has been started for children with visual impairment. School sensitization programme has started to sensitize the teacher as well as the non-disabled children on inclusive education.
Sensitizing the PRI members: The state govt. is empowering the Panchayat to deal with all the matters in their jurisdiction. PRI members are sensitized to take interest in the school affairs. Steps are being taken to make education a major agenda in palli sabha and gram sabha.
